Cissy Houston, the well-known soul and gospel singer and mom of Whitney Houston, has died on the age of 91.
Houston, a two-time Grammy Award winner who sang for Aretha Franklin and Elvis Presley, died this morning at her house in New Jersey, in response to her daughter-in-law, Pat Houston. Houston is receiving hospice take care of Alzheimer’s illness and is surrounded by her household.
“Our hearts are stuffed with ache and unhappiness. We’ve misplaced the matriarch of our household,” Pat Houston shared in a press release to The Related Press. “Mom Cece has been a powerful and noble determine in our lives. A lady of deep religion and conviction who cared deeply about household, ministry and group. Her seven-plus-year profession in music and leisure will Keep in our hearts endlessly.
Born in Newark, New Jersey, Houston started her profession in leisure as a member of the gospel group Drinkard 4. Later, she fashioned the Candy Inspirations with Dee Dee Warwick and Doris Troy, which produced songs for Otis Redding, Da Dustin Springfield and Dionne Warwick present backup vocals.
As a solo musician, she launched her debut album, “Presenting Cissy Houston,” in 1970, adopted by a collection of recordings through the years, together with her most up-to-date, 2012’s “Stroll on By Religion.” She has sung backup vocals on recordings for a wide range of artists, together with Bette Middler on her 1972 debut The Heaven Miss M., Franklin’s Ain’t No Approach and Van Morrison “Brown Eyed Woman” by Van Morrison.
Houston comes from an performing household that features her daughter Whitney Houston and nieces Deion and DeeDee Warwick. She can also be the cousin of opera singer Leontyne Worth.
