Ridley Scott has delivered some epic battle scenes in his movies, from the Battle of Clark in 2005’s Kingdom Come to the Battle of Austerlitz in 2023’s Napoleon. However the legendary filmmaker says the motion in his upcoming Gladiator sequel is greater than something he is carried out prior to now.

“We began the film with in all probability the most important motion scene I’ve ever carried out,” Scott advised Empire in a current interview. “Most likely larger than something in ‘Napoleon.'”

“Gladiator 2” stars Paul Mescal as Lucius, the son of Lucilla (Connie Nielsen) and the unique movie’s villain Con, performed by Joaquin Phoenix. Nephew of Commodus. The sequel is about a few years after 2000’s Gladiator, with Lucius as a younger man residing within the Numidia area of North Africa, the place he was despatched by his mom as a baby. A sequence of occasions brings Lucius again to Rome as a gladiator, the place he makes new enemies and reunites together with his mom.

Whereas Scott did not reveal too many particulars concerning the opening motion sequence of Hellraiser 2, he did tease the second when Mescal’s Lucius faces a rhinoceros on the Colosseum.

“Computerization and synthetic intelligence — it’s a must to embrace it,” Scott mentioned of constructing the computer-generated rhino for the scene. “I might have a pc learn each molecule and wrinkle on a rhinoceros after which reduce it on a thick piece of plastic, completely like a rhino’s physique, after which tailor it to the form of a bone.”

He added, “I’ve a factor that goes 40 miles an hour, spins in place, shakes its head and roars. A two-ton rhinoceros with a person on its again! I imply, it is humorous.

“Gladiator 2” will premiere in theaters on November 22.
